(I've never had to.) You have to move your stuff before you can delete the corrupt one. Mac Help has some guidance to offer. But, you might want to create another new account just to be sure that it works there. Two against one gives you much better odds that a permanent switch will solve the problem.

Assumptions:. I have Excel 2016 PC and Mac on the same machine, with the same regional settings, etc. I have the latest Excel 2016 Mac version: 15.16.

I am opening a CSV/Text file with some fields made of long strings (ex: descriptions) where a space might exist at the end, before the delimiting character. On Excel 2016 PC, a space is a space, all lines have the same configuration since each line appears fully on one line, and Excel even converts it directly without any problem. On Excel 2016 Mac, when you start using the Import or 'Text-to-Columns' tool, already at the opening itself of the file, some lines have already been stripped or move partly to the next line which of course, jeopardizes the way to have the same configuration per line.

Thus, there seems to be some interpretation in Excel 2016 for Mac when the file is opened, before its treatment in 'text-to-columns'. It occurs also with lenghty strings and some of the spaces between words. Excel Mac seems to interpret some spaces as 'new line' characters. When I save the same file in 'Text (tab-delimited)' in Windows, Excel 2016 Mac does perfectly the job. The treament of CSV imports is really not the same under both OS types. I recommend making sure your installation is up to date.
